When the whole world seems to be zigging, maybe that’s a good time to think about zagging.
That’s basically contrarian thinking in a nutshell.
I was listening to a Tim Ferriss podcast, and he was talking about sticking to audio podcasts, instead of giving in to the perceived social pressure to create a video podcast. Zagging instead of zigging.
An important caveat, though: He had thought through his end goals and what he was trying to achieve, so he was able to measure the pros and cons of a video podcast against his goals.
Start with end in mind. (Thank you Stephen Covey.) Then choose your course of action based on the best way to reach that end, and don’t be afraid to do something different from what you see everyone else around you doing.
When appropriate, zag instead of zig.
